About Us

Jan and Steve Young, the founders of One World Artisans, are a husband and wife team, originally from, and still living in the St. John Valley in northernmost Maine.

Jan is a stained glass artist, with over 10 years professional experience.  Jan’s specialties include fused and slumped glass art, and soldered dimensional stained glass art.  Jan’s first language growing up here in “The Valley” was French, and she is still fluent!

Steve is a photographer and wildlife biologist.  The main industry in the area for the last century has been Fraser Papers, in Madawaska, Maine and Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada.  He was the wildlife biologist for the Fraser Papers in northernmost Maine and northwestern New Brunswick, Canada until the company decided to sell its land the land had supported the mills and the local communities for over 100 years. He also had operated a part-time photography business for twenty years, specializing in view camera photography, and hand made color and archival black & white enlargements.
